Sometimes you just need a little push to try something outside of your normal comfort zone. Recently for me, it was one of my favorite brands coming out with a new eyeshadow formulation. NARS Cambodia Cinematic Eyeshadow ($24) is a gorgeous rust red that I thought could be very versatile, and that I would use a lot more often than the blue or purple, although I do love purple eyeshadow...
According to the website:
"Limited edition and created exclusively for the NARS Guy Bourdin Holiday Collection, Cinematic Eyeshadow has velvety soft texture that glides on smoothly for high-impact color with a metallic finish. Easily blendable for multi-function versatility of use for shading, lining or highlighting. Can be applied dry or with a dampened brush for a more intense finish."
The new formula is amazing, it is so soft without being powdery that it almost feels like a cream. I couldn't even see a reason to use this wet, it's so pigmented on it's own. Since I'm not usually into dramatic eye looks, my favorite way to use this is lightly in the crease, with brown in the outer corner. This makes for a wearable daytime look with a rust red "haze" that is perfect for fall and winter. Unfortunately they are limited, but I really hope they continue making eyeshadows like this, and that they become part of the permanent line.
I thought ELF Sunset might be similar but it is a lighter orange, this really demonstrates the difference in pigment & texture as well:
